from the pgen nfo:
Prepare a CD compilation using your favourite burning software. For |
| this compilation, you must place the PGEN files (PGEN11.ELF and |
| SYSTEM.CNF) in the root of the compilation.
Meaning, (PGEN11.elf and system.cnf) go on the CD in the _root directory, not in a folder
If you will be placing roms|
| on the compilation (which isnt necessary, as you may wish to place the |
| roms on a HDD or memory card instead), then place them in one or |
| several sub-directories in the root of the compilation. You must make |
| sure that the number of files and directories inside the root directory|
| does not exceed 32. For this reason it is recommended that you have a |
| directory called "Roms" in the root of your compilation, and then place|
| all your roms inside this directory. The 32 file/dir limitation only |
| applies for the root directory.
Read this as "if you want roms, make a folder (ie ROMS) in the _root directory of the cd, this folder can hold NO MORE than 32 roms or folders or combinations of the two"
so if you have more than 32 roms, just make two or more directories instead (call them what you will, i alphabetized my rom collection- ROMSA, ROMSB, ROMSC1, ROMSC2, etc.) and stuff them with no more than 32 roms per folder.
NOTE- being as the _root directory can have no more than 32 files/folders, you can fit 30 folders of roms on the disc, or a total of 960 roms max
Once your compilation has been |
| prepared, burn as a MODE2/XA disc. |
burn as a data-CD

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..........
i have like, 4 roms, and this is the layout of the cdgenps2 thing:
The CD Name
Rom folder
SYSTEM.CNF
PGEN_12.ELF
in the rom folder there are my roms, all of them .gen with 6-7 characters in the name. i amke the image and use Alcohol 120% because you cant do that shinobe with it. an image burning wizard, period.
NOW CAN ANYONE NOT TRANSLATE THINGS THAT I HAVE ALREADY READ AND UNDER STOOD AND TELL ME WTHECK TO DO WITH MY ROMS!?

I burned SNEStation and Pgen discs using the Mode 1 method on a Mitsubishi DVD+RW holding about 6 folders of 175 ROMS a folder in the iso file I made. Really, in most cases, you actually want to stay under around 300 ROMS a folder. So far, I've been able to get about a thousand games on a disc burning at 2.4x's. Everything else in Xomby's method seems perfect, but on this issue, it more likely varies on the disc size, disc brand, and how your PS2 personally handles. The same thing goes for burning PS2 backup iso's. It;s more or so up in the air. Just remember how many games you put in and how many folders, and try dumbing it down a little each time until it's perfect. also keep in mind the disc brand you're using. Just remember, ALWAYS STAY UNDER 8X SPEED! I burn at 2.4x but the general preferred speed is about 4x.

and remember that not all mod chips support dvdrw's.
note- the only reason i said 32, was probably the version of it i was using as a reference.
