put in Mario Party 8 or not?

I have a Japanese Wii (bought last month). I can play a backup Paper Mario (English version)

I dont know what kind of chip I have, I forgot to ask. When I bought the Wii, I was given two options, 1) a cheaper chip that cant play Paper Mario, and 2)and more expensive chip which can play Paper Mario.

I bought the more expensive one, and it plays Paper Mario fine (except for a loud humming noise in the machine.)

So, since it plays an english version of Paper Mario fine, then
I assume that I must have the most recent firmware update. Putting in Mario Party 8 should be no problem right?

yup, just make sure your at the latest firmware and pop it in I didnt get any promt for updates and I don't belive it actually has updates on it
