HP DVD Writer 300n - Unable to burn to dvd-r

Hello all,

I'm having some difficulties with my drive.

It can read a dvd movie. The drive reads and writed to cd's w.o any issues. When I pop in a DVD-R to burn something, the drive doesn't recognize. It's not a manufacturer problem b/c I tried 3 different types and the drive can read a full dvd movie from the 3 manufacture type dvd's I attempted.

When I pop in the DVD-R, I see the cd cursor in windows trying to read it. Them, nothing happens. Usually windows should give me a pop up detecting the blank media and the choice of programs to use to burn (Nero, etc). Unfortunately, im my scenario, it doesn't do this. So it looks as though this drive doesn't like blank dvd-rs.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Do you think it may be a firmware problem? If so, where can I dl the correct one for this drive?

moved to correct forum.
you might want to look at your drive specs next time before you post as your drive does not support -r just +r/rw.
