firstly glad to be part of the wii committee... need some helping understanding some terms sorry for the trouble folks

basically i just bought a japanese version wii modded with the wiikey and the latest version, i would like to know somethings to get started, thanks all

1) when a new firmware update is avaliable for the wiikey, how do i update it into my wii?

2) understand that there are some games that will be bricked, a recent example was the paper mario US version i ve been hearing about but has been solved with the latest update... basically, is there any website that can tell u about the games that will have problems or are not compatiable with the jap wii?

if there isnt, can somebody be so kind so as to tell me what are the games to lay off for the japanese wii?

3)sonic and the secret rings, i read up that the voice is english but the menu and subtitles are in japanese for the american version... is this true? is there an option to switch the menu to english

i think thats it for now, thanks alot for taking the time to read this thread, ^^

Here is a website that you can use to see which games will work for what system:

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php/Wii_Re...28USA.29_to_PAL

I don't know how they will update the Wiikey! I think it would be just like how they do it for the WiiD: You burn the firmware to a disc, and load it up to the Wii! There are a few other things you do, but I won't go into detail on that!

The only way that Super Paper Mario has been bricking Wii's, is that it comes with a system update! To avoid this, just update your System to the Latest Firmware, and then you can play the Game without any problems!

I think lumas7 ment how to update firmware, i dnt think he knows the diff between that and wii firmware. When i was new i dint know ether.
so here the steps

Main menu choose Wii options in the bottom left
Choose Wii Settings on the right
Goto the third page
Select the third item down
It will ask to connect to the internet, say yes (on the left)
It will test connection and download the update

If i were you i would use the setup disk, this case you can play more games, on the cout of the region free thing on it.

to be region free put the disk in wii go to the menu of the setup disk and clik region free..alowing you to play more PAL NTSC/U and NTSC/J.

if you need help on getting the setup disk for "wiikey" or if you have any more questions ask away!

You need to go to http://www.wiikey.cn/resources.html to download the newest firmware for Wiikey. Right now version 1.2 is the newest.

After downloading the firmware file from the site. Extract it to your computer and choose the BootableDisc_JAP.bat file to create an ISO setup disc. Once it has been created burn the ISO to a blank DVD using Nero or ImgBurn.

Now insert the setup disc into your Wii to change the settings to your liking.

If you play any out of region NTSC(U) or PAL Game Disc you will need to keep your Wii updated to the newest firmware. The latest firmware at this time for NTSC(J) is 2.2J

Keeping it updated to the newest firmware will protect your Wii from being bricked from an out of region update of a game disc.

To keep your Wii updated follow the directions provided above by feod.

The below site is a compatibility list. The list shows all games that are region compatible and are not region compatible for your NTSC(J) Wii. Since you have an NTSC(J) Wii you will look under the sections of...

NTSC(U) TO NTSC(J) -- for NTSC(U) Game disc that are compatible for your NTSC(J) Wii.

PAL TO NTSC(J) -- for PAL Game disc that are compatible for your NTSC(J) Wii.

The site above Wiki says this for the NTSC(U) version of Sonic & the Secrete Rings

Japanese subtitle, Japanese voice, yet it has English language option.

Also as feod has stated. In order to play out of region game disc on your NTSC(J) Wii you will need to insert the Wiikey setup disc into your Wii and change the Region Override to ON.
