Should I go for it? - Dynex DVD-/+ media

I know you get what you pay for, but what does that mean for DVD media? Does it mean hard to burn without errors, very short life, both? Best Buy has a deal on a 50 pack of Dynex DVD-/+ media for $8.99 with free shipping ... I didn't know if this media would be good for backing up movies or not. Thanks!

Dynex is ok, what you have is a large surplus, best buy wont sell you instant coasters in a spiral or dogy batchs, it would ruin there reputation, go for it, it's like 12$ for 15 at cvs so why not?
there is no difference between +/- only that it seems that +r has better play back and higher compatibility rates, the disc's will work fine

for burning movies to dvd's,I only use taiyo yuden 8x(-), and verbatim 16x(+). The main reason is to prevent the movies from skipping or freezing when playing back. All blank dvd's will burn your movie and say burn is sucessful, it's when you play it back that you have problems. Only use the best media if your serious of getting a quality burn. If you do buy the dynex, just buy one pack and as soon as you do a burn, do a quality test (on Nero or similar program) on the burned disc to check how it works on your burner. Any quality result of 90% or above and it'll probably play ok. I check all my dvd burn's by opening it up on dvd playing software and using the seek bar to fast forward and rewind it, if the playback freezes, takes to long to find the next section crashes the computer you got problems. Before I use to think all dvd media was the same, now I know better. The only way I would purchase dynex media is if it was "highly" recommended by other people here on the forums.

Despite the claims of the Dynex media being bad, which i dont doubt they have been, i went and bought 2 50-packs just yesterday for the 8.99 sale price. They had 2 different DVD+R packagings and i got one of each. So far I've only opened the one that's "Made in China" and suprisingly enough these disc are "MCC-004"! *SCORE*
So if your gonna take the chance on some Dynex look for the "© 2006 Best Buy, Made in China" ones.

I went and checked 4 more discs picked at random from the spindal and they all came out 'MCC-004-00', scanned with two different programs.
I so went and opened the other spindal "Made in Taiwan" scanned some discs at random and they came out as 'RICOHJPN-R03-04'.
what do you think, cause i'm no expert.

RICOHJPNR03 in my opinion are awesome discs, i use these like they're going out of fashion and rate them very highly indeed. I buy all mine as Maxell 16x +R

So would you say I lucked out, or might you still think they could be fakes?
Either way I'm happy, i've *never* had a problem with DVD media of any kind, and I almost always end up with the CMC stuff.

Dynex MIC disks are made by the same two companies, AML and UME, that make Playo (Staples) and NexxTech (Circuit City) media.
They are NOT real MCC media. Like Playo, they use fake MCC codes for better compatibility, since many burners don't have proper write strategies for AML or UME media.
The only NexxTech or Dynex disks that would be genuine MCC would have to be made in Taiwan. At one time, there were some, but they do not exist anymore.

I've burned several hundred of the Dynex with zero playback problems. I usually avoid cheap discs but I took a chance and for once it paid off. I wouldn't be afraid to use them for casual burning.

I had a bad experience. I bought 8 50 packs. I am going on a trip so I was burning away when I realized something was wrong. Every single disc I burnt was a dud. I had like 10 or 12. So I returned them all to best buy. I don't want to take chances even for that price! I am not a name snob either. I use Dynex for cds all the time. This was my first try for dvds though.

It has been months. I've been using them since before the beginning of the year, burned hundreds, still no coasters, no bad replays. It has paid off.
