its only the UK at the moment not the whole of europe... PAL copies should still be avaliable from European countries.

as long as the netherlands have PAL there won't be any banned release because of gore! You could always import from NL or similar countries.

Yeah Bad news boys, The ESRB handed out an AO (Adults Only) rating to Manhunt 2. This is equal to shooting somebody and letting them bleed, You didn't kill em' but you did everything but. =(
For you across the pond'ers this means that 98.9% of American retail chains will not carry this title in stores. Also Blockbuster and Gamefly have said they will not carry an AO game. This means that R* is either going to give into the pressure or release this game and eat millions of dollars in profit.
Also, What's the point of this censorship in the end? It's a matter of creative freedom. It is very hard to draw concrete lines on what should and should not be censored, especially when everyone is of different opinions. What some people consider an abomination of violence and brutality might be someone else's reminder that life is not all roses and rainbows.
The possibility exists that some unstable person will get a hold of this game and go ballistic, but similar arguments have been made about all media over the years. It's the "corrupting our youth" fallacy. Even in a utopia free from any violent media or influences, there's no guarantee that peace itself won't act as a catalyst for some unstable psycho's massacre.
We minimize censorship because of an implicit understanding that everyone is different. We're allowed to judge for ourselves what we should and shouldn't consume. The fact that some people are unable to make that call is a fault of other aspects of society, not the media it produces.
*Update* - Also Amazon has just pushed back the release date to September 1st. This clearly means the game will get edited and re-released later...

Any NTSC-U or J game. I wanted to get a copy of Mario Strikers Charged and had to order from blahdvd.com (in the UK).
On the note concerning the fact that retail chains will not sell copies of Manhunt 2 with the AO rating:
PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS GAME
Find a local chain to get this from or an online store. It truly is sad that AO rated games will not be avaliable at chains like Blockbuster and Gamefly (GF sucks anyways. Takes 1 week to rent one f*%^ing game). It sucks that AO is to games as NC-17 is to movies. But Blockbuster STILL carries UNRATED DVDs. Why ban AO rated games? It's probably because AO usually = porn. In this case, very violent and disturbing video images.
Maybe it should be AO. But it should STILL be allowed to be sold in stores.

So Nintendo doesnt endorse games with the AO rating. Who cares? Why can't they just sell a Wii version without Wii's name on it? They can't be sued if "Wii" isn't stamped on the box. Do you think that Nintendo approves of modchips? No, but they can't make them stop because the mod chip companies to advertise their product as a Nintendo product. It's just "compatible" I guess you could say with a Nintendo product.
Bottom line is I think they should go ahead with it and label on the box that it is compatible with the Nintendo Wii, not a Wii game.

There will be PAL releases, just not in the UK. Germany will still have a release and Play.com are still taking Pre-orders for wii, ps2 & pc. Don't know if they will stop taking pre-orders. It won't be that difficult to find.

Why dont they just use the same ratings system as the film industry?
R rated movie = "In the opinion of the Rating Board, this film definitely contains some adult material. Parents are strongly urged to find out more about this film before they allow their children to accompany them. An R-rated film may include strong language, violence, nudity, drug abuse, other elements, or a combination of the above, so parents are counseled in advance to take this advisory rating very seriously."
Now that pretty much sums up what id imagine Manhunt 2 is. To say that this game is more intense than something like the movie Hostel or Saw 3 doesnt seem fare to me. And labeling it Adult Only so retailers wont sell it is B.S.

i agree with samshizze, but however i think as for the wii release as much as i want it! Mirroring the motion of sliting someones throat - although fun for some of us, can be considered sick, uncontrolled nonsense. If ya see what im saying.
