Computer monitor to use as HDTV also.

I am looking at the Samsung 244T Monitor for my computer. I am hoping to kill two birds with one stone.

Should I by a monitor that will also work as a HDTV or an HDTV that will also connect to a computer?

I don't plan on buying a large HD Plasma or LCD TV for a couple of years. I need a better monitor for my photography and I would like to be able to watch sports and programming at times in HD. Can I use the monitor to watch HDTV also, from my cable TV company? Right now I just have a 27" conventional TV. I figure a 24" monitor as close as it will be(I watch alone mostly) would be better, than what I have now. So, can I have Mediacom set me up for High Definition and connect it to the monitor for games and important HDTV events and switch back for my computer? Is there a better way(switch maybe) to do it?
