Help Needed!! Bricked Japanese Wii

Hi,

I got a Japanese wii that was semi-bricked. After reading this forum, it was suggested i get a japanese game with latest firmware update to 'un-brick' the machine. The problem is I don't even know which version of firmware is my wii.

1) How can I find out which version is my machine. My setting menu is screwed and only give me an Opera error message. No info on firmware is displayed.

2) Any suggestion which Japanese game should I get? And where can i buy one?

If its only a semi brick meaning you can't access wii settings then you more then likely have firmware 2.1J. You will need to update your wii with a firmware of 2.2J. I believe but I MAY BE WRONG you can get Big Brain Academy from your region and it should un-brick the settings. If it had been anything lower then 2.1J you would have full bricked your wii.

If it was updated to a 2.1E or 2.1U firmware then you will need to recover it with a 2.2J firmware.

Try 1 of the below NTSC(J) Wii Game Disc.

Pokemon Battle Revolution
Wii de Yawaraka Atama Juku

I am not 100% sure if they have the 2.2J firmware on the game disc but those are the most recent Japanese games released with firmware on them.

If you have bricked the system settings with a 2.2U or 2.2E firmware then you will need to wait till a higher firmware is released on an NTSC(J) Game Disc.

well, you're pretty much right. FYI - i believe Wii de Yawaraka Atama Juku is big brain academy in japan (literal translation is roughly 'light/gentle brain exercises' tho, i think). so you're on the right track :p

I didn't want them looking for the Big Brain Academy game disc that is in japan since the title is different then the USA and PAL version is. Plus I didn't want to confuse them with the Big Brain Academy game disc and trying to update with that title.

He was on the right track.

I just don't understand how people jump into the Wii Modscene and not know about the region brick issues and how to prevent it from happening.

It has been well covered on most forum sites ever since the first region brick issue had occurred with the Super Paper Mario brick.
