well- As long as we are talking about OfficeDepot's Own branded media as opposed to ATIVA which they also carry ? The answer to your question would ne as follows! OfficeDepot Brand Media is Normally made for them by Ritek or RicohJpn atleast in the 50 & 100 Spindles ! The 75/25 DVD/CD spindles maybe different ! Ritek and Ricohjpn media are Pretty Good media ( But not in the same league with Verbatim & Taiyo yuden) IMHO!!!!!!!!! I have had good results with both Though I have had more experience with the RIteks ! Mainly as Either Officedepot branded or Maxell branded 8x Dvd media ! and Ricohjpns as TDk 4x DVD+R's 100 Burns no deffective disk ! I realise however that the current media that Officedepot has onsale is 16x DVD-R & 16X DVD+R and not 8X ! But I trust them enough to buy them onsale of cousre !!!!!!!!!in addition Saugmon has used many of them and had good results and I trust his Judgement & knowledge on this issue !Some members have been down on the Riteks lately but I can only offer my opinion as above from my own experience ! Everyone has different equipment & even expectations so what works or dowes'nt work for them may react differently for you ? On the Dynex issue? Dynex media I would personally not use unless I knew what company OEM'ed ( Made the Disc ) last I'd heard They were using MCC media codes indicating Verbatim/Mitsubishi made media but really they are just using copied/stolen /bootlegged codes to try to get better compatability than they would without them! or to cut to the Chase ! Given a Choice between Officedepot Media & Dynex I would GO Officedepot! IMHO !!!! But as always the choice lies with the consumer/buyer = You ! So I hope I've been atleast a Little helpfull here & wish you luck in your Burning Ambitions whatever you decide ? Good Luck & Happy Trails Ciao!
If Best Buy were using Dynex media with fake MCC codes, then Mitsubishi or Verbatim or Philips could have the goods seized by customs when they entered the country. I doubt Best Buy would risk that because they would then run out of stock. All goods delivered to their stores would also be subject to seizure, at their own loss.
So either:
1) Best Buy is unware of "fake" or counterfeit goods.
2) MCC has given permission for the use of their MID code for factories in China. (This has happened to other MID codes many times before as factories start test production for a brand using an approved MID code. The production is sold off under different brands until the production quality reaches the level acceptable to the owner of the MID. At that point the factory begins producing for the owner.)
I really don't know about these discs but I'll start checking my sources to find out. I have no information about the quality of Dynex media.

Dynex (Best Buy), Playo (Staples), and NexxTech (Circuit City) media is all made by two companies, AML and UME. They use "fake" media codes for better compatibility with a wider range of burners. Their older 8x media used their own codes, and it burned horribly. Whether they are licensed to use the codes or not is irrelevant (although for those brands they probably are licensed), since the media is not being advertised or sold as being a Verbatim or Mitsubishi product. Media codes are for burners to read, not humans, so there is no deception, false advertising, or any other kind of fraud going on. The products are advertised to burn at their rated speeds, and that is all that matters from an FTC perspective. True counterfeit or fraudulent products would be those that attempt to deceive the human into thinking that they are buying something that is made by Verbatim or Mitsubishi, and that is not the case. Internet speculation as to what a product is has nothing to do with legal liability as to what a product is advertised or sold as being.
Negritude- Thank you my friend for you have explained what I was trying to said so much better and eloquently Than I did or probably ever could ! I still think you get pretty much what you pay for Media-wise ! With Real Verbatims going onsale every other week or two for .25ea.Disc or less Why try to tempt fate? ? with something that's off the page? Let's face it Even some of the Big Name brands switch Oem's on a regular basis so Smaller companies it's doubly so IMHO!!!They're operating on an even narrower Profit margin then the big Boys !!! Personally I Generally Buy either Sony's Verbatims , Taiyo yudens or Verbatims Online or I wait for a sale On Officedepot Media like the one they just had ! I either get Ritek or Ricohjpn media both of which I have had good results with ! They're not Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens I understand that ! but decent Media atleast on my equipment ! But I understand everyones burners and computers are different & may get better or worse results than me with the same disc ! But That's my .02cents anyhow ! thaks Negritude & Joe Ciao!
