Is it possible to boot up gamecube games on the Wii by putting a GC image on a SD card?

Nope
But you can put multiple GC games on a DVD and then boot them in the Wii

Just to make sure so only homebrew apps would work on a SD card with a Wii, but not Gamecube images?

Notihng works on an SD card on a Wii.

You can only use the Gecko GC to SD port to copy game image peices to an SD card.
