Ok guys here goes. I wish to start ripping DVD's and also then encode them to XviD or DivX (which ever is best I don't know) to keep on my PC.

Unless I am missing something most of the ripping programs I looked at eg. DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD etc are not available anymore due to legal complications.

If possible could you guys pls assist me with info on a ripping as well as an encoding program. Free would be great but if it needs to be purchased so be it.

You can still get DVD Decrypter there. However most on AD seem to
prefer DVD Fab Decrypter (the free version) because it is updated
regularly.
AnyDVD is still available for purchase. They have a 20% off sale
on until 6-24. In my opinion it is the best program out there and
well worth the price. Once purchased you get free lifetime updates.
They update regularly.
The site I mentioned above has links to the downloads of all the
most popular software. It also has some of the most complete, easy
to use guides you will find anywhere.

actually you can still buy Slysoft's AnyDVD HERE and try a 15 day free trial too, probably the best program for the money.

You can still backup dvds with all free stuff too, the website that Shardel provided all have excellent guides and this website too has excellent guides too.

Cool thx guys will check it out.

I would also like to get your opinion this, I downloaded a trial version of Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum now I haven't used it as yet but it looks like a nice program.

What do you guys think of this program?

Lastly is AnyDVD just to rip or does it do the encoding to AVI etc aswell?
