I backed up a music dvd onto my hard drive. I now have the following files:
VIDEO_TS
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB

Is there a way to tell what these files are, which are video files and which are audio files? And - I know this is weird - but is there a way or software I should use to identify audio sources e.g. sound from the artist (singing), sound from guitar, sound from drums etc. Reason I am asking is I was told all music DVDs are recorded by combining separate files e.g. a guitar file, a drum file, an singing file etc. which means the band doesn't have to be together in a studio to record a DVD. Am I correct? Or did someone pull my leg? Thanks.

Video and audio aren't separated. It's both in the VTS_01_?.VOB files. You can extract audio to separate files using e.g. SmartRipper.

Probably. On a DVD there can be stored more than 2 channels (stereo), e.g. 6 (= 5.1). Theoretically each channel could store a single instrument but it isn't done like this. On each channel more or less all sounds are mixed together (differently) to create a surround immage.
