Multi GC games disc help

Hey, I created a multiboot gc game disc for my modded wii (wiid) and I am having problems selecting the games after going to the disc menu and pressing start. It takes me to the GCOS screen with the list of games, but I am unable to select the games with my wii controller. I am hoping that I do not need a gamecube controller because my gc controllers 'lost'. Thanks in advance!

I believe you need to use a gc controller.
