dvd movie freezes and jumps about 1 hr into movies?

i have been backin up my avi files to on dvd-r for ages now but i have been having problems recently
i have encoded and burned 3 movies lately and just over an hour into it maybe 5 mins the dvd's start to freeze play,freeze play but up untill that hour they play perfect no problems at all i tested them on my pc and they don't freeze at all.
does it sound like the media i'm using is duff bcos the first hour plays fine
any info appreciated

It sounds like it could be a media compatability issue as I have had the same problem on my Optorite DD0203 drive. I was using Datawrite DVD-R's (Princo) and the results were always the same.

I am now using Ritec's (4x) and the problem has vanished! On the other hand, it could be your firmware if you have updated as my Pioneer 106 did the same when flashed to the latest F/W version using Ritecs?

hi Koola,

how would i go about flashing my firm ware?
what discs would you say is the best as i have tried loads some good some really bad lol

ahh i downloaded the software to flash it from your website i have a pioneer 104 is it dangerous to upgrade firmware what will it do?

It is dangerous to update the firmware as if you don't do it properly, it can have dramatic effects on your drive but the advantages far out weigh the disadvantages.

Before you try updating your firmware, try using different media as it sorted my problem out!

Yep, not bad discs for the money. I also tried Datawrites (Red classics) and they were ok, but tended to freeze if you burn upto the edges.
I now use Ritec's (Blue dye) and always will as they are excellent disc's, plus not has a single coaster!
