trying to figure out why my wiikey chip's not working in my wii. Installed in 2 wiis, one stopped working. it'll play originals fine, but whenever I put in a backup, the dvd drive "seizes"--it clicks several times, then the screen shows the "there's a problem with your wii, eject the disc and restart" message.
the weird thing is, i took out the chip, and the same problem occurs. there are absolutely no crossed leads, i've done a million continuity tests. i can even replace the dvd drive with another dvd drive (both modded and unmodded) and the same problem occurs. Now this problem is showing up in another wii, the wii i borrowed the DVD drive from.
Could it somehow be a problem with the white bundle of cables, or the dvd ribbon cable? How would the same problem appear on two wiis, even without the mod chip in? I've tried testing the systems several times, unplugging the cables and plugging them back in tightly and securely, unless somehow i managed to dislodge them from the mainboard (but then, why would it only act up when it gets backups, and not originals?)
It's a NTSC system, and i'm 99% sure the only copy of super paper mario played was burnedNTSC (though I think we just put it in to test, i don't even think that we played it). I'm fairly certain the 2nd system had never had SPM played on it. And the problems didn't happen as a result of SPM either, they just randomly happened.
Mario Strikers Charged Football PAL was played on both systems though, but they worked fine. I'm pretty sure they were both already updated before we put in the game, both say 2.2u for firmware.
Turns out the problem was caused by an NTSC copy of Big Brain Academy i downloaded from Wiitorrents.net. I formatted the Wii system memory, and all games resumed funcionality with the exception of BBA. These problems didn't start happening either until I tried BBA on the system.
I don't see how the BBA could have been the cause of this issue.
I have an NTSC(U) Wii and downloaded the same version as you did and had no issue. Plus I see no other issues like this listed in the comments of that particular torrent.
yeah, I see the game as working for other people, but for some reason it didn't work on mine. All the signs are pointing straight at BBA for causing the problems stated. Who knows, maybe my friend just made a bad burn? These are the only two Wiis that I know of in my realm of friends with mod chips, so there's no way I can test someone elses copy or anything (btw the original BBA works fine). Anyways, I guess I'll just try again.
