Specs:

WiiFREE 2.45 installed myself
bought June 4, 3 pins cut
Have 14 backups, these are the only cases I've encountered so far.
All backups are USA, just like the console.
I've used several medias but only these two worked consistently:

MAXELL DVD-R 8x burned@2x w/Nero
VERBATIM DVD-R 16x burned@2x w/Nero&ImgBurn

I have an _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A with 1.05 FW, 1.07 is available.

Hello there,

I have a problem reading backups with my USA Wii.

I have a WiiFREE 2.45 installed, had to grind the chip and all since I bought it the 4th of June.

Anyway ... problem:

Example one:

Playing WarioWare: Smooth'a'grovin' along ...
It'll change to a new "level"
BAM, Cannot read the disc.

I let this happen a few times with a couple games before I opened my box, checked the install.

Looks fine, I mean, it WORKS, just after a certain point, it STOPS.

Anyway, so I burned another copy with a brand new media.

Played until I got to the point it said it couldn't read, etc.

Swapped the disc, worked great!

BAM.

A few stages later it occurs again.

Damn...that sucked.

Swapped again, works.

etc.
etc.
etc.

---

Example 2:

Trauma Center:

I'm cuttin' shit out of people and I finish and operation, YES!

So I continue along to the stage selection screen and I hit the 8th thing.

BAM, can't read that shit.

Well, gee.

I turn it off, try it again.

BAM.

off.

BAM.

off!

BAM!

*cries*

I burn another copy on another media, works great!

I didn't go further enough to see if it would reoccur on this game.

---

Example 3:

Godfather:

Offer can't refuse, yada yada.

Same story.

Didn't burn more than one copy for this because I was already very annoyed.

---

Any ideas?

If you have any questions, I'll get right back at you with the answers.

Thanks!

I have a _NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD, so yours should be better than mine.

Try burning with the Verbatims in ImgBurn at 4X, not 2X.

Can burning at 4x be better than 2x?

I always heard 2x...

Do you burn yours at 4x?

I'll start burning my games that I'm getting on 4x instead for now.

Is this a common problem?

Hmmm...tried it with 4x also, had the same problem.

Scarface during the training mission:

"The Game Disc could not be read.

Please read the Wii Operations manual for more information."

I'll try to burn DVDs from a different DVD burner ...

How long have you had the problem?

What specs do you have?

What games/media/burner are you using?

Have you tried other burners?

If I used imgburn (or something you might suggest?)

to verify..."test" the quality of the DVDs, does that really matter since console DVD-roms are generally temperamental.

Since it would be the same DVD burner/reader used to burn the disc, would it not catch it's own flaws?

I'm just trying to find out if it's possible to rule out my burner.

Of course, I'd like to prove it's my burner because it would be the cheapest to replace.

It won't be a few more days until I get a day off to go test another burner though.

Can your Modchip change the Wii reading speed? I know Wiikey has the option between 3x and 6x maybe changing the speed will help.

This also could be an issue of the Wii getting to hot. Try getting a Wii Air Cooler which connects to the back of the Wii. Having some sort of help keeping the Wii cooler might help as well. Below is a link to what I am referring to...

Did the backup burned on the other dvd writer work well?

I have a cooling system for my Wii, I never use Connect24, always cool before I turn it on.

Within moments of trying Scarface (3-4 minutes) it triggered it.

Went out and bought a 40 dollar Sony DVD burner.

Didn't reburn the discs from before, but burned 5 other games.

Works fine so far.

Tried each game about 22-25 minutes each.

I'll post an update in 1 week or if it stops working.

Yep, scarface worked fine.

Although it was a retarded game.

Anyway, no problems since, after (re)burning 35 games, they all work solid.

No heat issues.

I've burnt 3 copy of Mario Party 8 on different media.

1. On my Sony laptop DVD drive at 1X, sometimes will say unable to read disc. So I just eject and it works fine.

DVD brand - cheap no branded disc.

2. My Pioneer dvd drive on 2X with TDK disc. I'll see the start screen but unable to load the game AT ALL.

3. Cheap no branded disc on 2X with Pioneer DVD drive. Works flawless!!!

Now I burn all my games on 2X with my Pioneer DVD drive + cheap unbranded disc. So I guess you just need to do lots of trial and errors.

Hello hailmary.

Would you please tell me which model your DVD burner is?
Also, are the games working flawlessly or do you get any minor problems (slowdowns, scan noises from the DVD drive of the Wii, something like that)

Thank you a lot.
