Hi all. I hope this is the right forum to ask this question so humor me if it isn't.
I have a 2003 Ford Expedition with a rear seat DVD player which is made by Delphi. I used to play backed up movies on it with TDK and Ridata +R DVDs flawlessly.
However, about a month ago, the backed up DVDs would occasionally have "bad disc" messages and the player would eject the disc. I would put it back in and then it would work. Over the course of a few weeks, it became eject-put back in-eject-put back in three times, then six times then ten times. Now those same discs can take maybe twenty times. I usually give up and tell the kids they have to listen to the radio. This morning during my long commute, the disc was ejected 57 times before it read.
To make matters worse, it has also been doing this to original DVDs as well. Original DVDs didn't take as many times as backed up ones did but now they are about the same. A brand new DVD out of the box, "Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase" would not read after about thirty times because I gave up.
My question is this: is it possible that the backed up DVDs caused the DVD player to fail to read any DVDs? Is it possible that some firmware was on a DVD that affected my DVD player? Could it be the laser or DVD player becoming bad?
I don't know if anyone else has had experience with Delphi DVD players but the dealer said that they have not had many problems with the players.
Oh and in case you are wondering, once a DVD is "accepted" and is read and operates normally, it will always operate normally meaning if we are watching a DVD and I turn off the player and shut off the car or turn it to listen to the radio, I would still be able to watch the DVD from where I was. It does not reject the DVD at that point. So now when I have a DVD that is finally read, we have to watch it until I can't stand it anymore.
Anyone else with this experience? Your help is much appreciated.
