'EA' games not working with Ad-hoc??

I have firmware 3.40 oe-a and so does my brother. We can successfully play Burnout dominator & call of duty multiplayer over ad-hoc but it seems that we can't get any 'EA' games to work with it.

We have tried fight night, NFS carbon etc.. :

- both psps are visible and we can get to the stage where you 'join game'

- we cannot start the the game however as the 'start' option is greyed out-although both psp names are shown on the screen, (with only one displaying a green circle)?

- all it lets us do is 'kick player from room' etc..

Does it have something to do with the firmware??
