I recently installed the Wiikey on my US Wii during installation I accidentally desoldered this part:

I put it back on by soldering the exposed metal on the ends to the two contacts next to where it was.

After that I ran the setup disc turned off region coding and then it loaded backups. But I just tried to load Mario Party 8 (PAL) and it did not work. First it tried to firmware update (I forgot to brick block the ISO) my firmware was already 2.2 so nothing happened.

Then the Mario Party disc screen came up and when I started the game it went black and would not respond to anything I ended up turning it off by disconnecting the power.

After that backups would not load anymore the ones that worked before don?t work now and Mario Party does not work either I can?t get the disc screen to come up it just says it can?t read it.

Even when it did play backups I would sometimes get a black screen that said: Error cannot read disc when it was loading a new section and I would have to restart the Wii. When it did this it was quick like it rechecked the region code of the disc or something. What I mean by that is it did not seem to have trouble reading the disc, the error would come up quick instead of trying to read the disc and then it coming up.

Through out this whole process however originals have always run fine.

Just a few questions:

So how can I fix these problems?
What is that component that I desoldered and what does it do?
Did I put it back on right?
Can I put it back on or do I need a new chip?
Are these problems related to the desoldered part or do you think the install is bad?

At this point I am going to open up the Wii again and try to reinstall it. And is there a place where I can get a new screw and sticker set for the Wii?

Any help would be much appreciated.

No clue what that piece in the center is, but there may be a way to solve it.

Try sticking in Big Brain Academy, so far that game has solved most/all firmware issues.

That & read the sticky about bricking, semibricking, etc. at the top of the thread list.

Mario Party 8 (PAL) is not region compatible with your NTSC(U) Wii System. This is why the above has happened. So you will need the NTSC(U) Version of Mario Party 8.

For future reference when playing an out of region Game Disc use the link below to look up the game you want to play and make sure it is region compatible with your NTSC(U) Wii System.

You will look under the sections of...

PAL TO NTSC(U) or NTSC(J) TO NTSC(U)

I have read a few threads of Wiikey owners having this issue after running a game disc that was not region compatible with their Wii System. A few say they solved this issue by formatting their Wii system and the backup games began to work again.

So try doing a system format on the Wii.

This more then likley is a media issue. Try different media and use ImgBurn at 4x burn speed to burn the game ISO to it.

Your problem sounds like a media issue, use verbatim+'s. Had the same issue.

Don't forget to burn at 4x or lower.
