Sup, im planning on upgrading my pc when the price cuts for the intel processors happen (july 22). I've been checking benchmarks on the two processors on tomshardware and the E6700 is equal, if not better, than the Q6600 right now. I think that the the Q6600 will be much better when games require more cores (alan wake) in the future.
Should i get the Q6600 or the E6700 for gaming?

Also, the speed on ram (ex.- 533, 667, etc.) is there a big difference between a DDR2 533 ram and a DDR2 800 ram?

Thanks!

Are you planning on overclocking? If you are, with a 1:1 ration the slower Ram would limit your overclocks.

I guess the best way to look at it is as an investment for the future. My logic is that maybe games will start coming out that have better support for quad cores. BUT is you are going to get a dual core get a E6850 which should be released on the same day and will be priced the same as the "quad" core. Even if today's games do perform a little better on dual cores the difference is marginal. On other applications such a video encoding the performance gains are very noticeable over dual cores.

Go with the "quad" core.

I wish AMD would come out with theirs already.

Oh and the best ram to use with the quad core would be DDR2 1066 which is quite expensive.
