Backing up a backup

I have the LG Drive and have backed up several of my games. My question is how to back up one of my backups? I have tried to put the back up in the LG drive and do it like an original game but it won't work. Anyone else tried this or know what to do? Or am I just SOL? Thanks...and I LOVE THIS SITE!!!

As far as "backing up" your backups... you are S.O.L. ... kinda.

Using RawDump2.0 to backup a backup - that is not possible (in my experience - I always get an error message)

I use a dedicated hard drive (HD's are pretty cheap - you can get a 500Gb on NewEgg.com for about $130 - which will hold over 100 games backups!) That way if you ever need to re-burn a game you've copied (or give one to a buddy as a "gift" you can just reburn your ISO image)

You do not have to save the ISO files for future disc burns.

To make a backup of a backup you can use ImgBurn.

MODE/READ then after it makes the ISO choose MODE/WRITE to burn the ISO.

You can get ImgBurn from the link below (Freeware) ....

I have heard some use Nero as well. Just choose the disc copy option. Some have had success using Nero but others have not. So I would recommend using ImgBurn instead of Nero.

Thanks for correcting me... but: if I copy/burn a game today and in 3 months that game disc doesn't work anymore it would be pretty useless to make a backup of that (or if you lend the game to a buddy who has a modded Wii and it gets lost or broken). I would say that the hard drive method of archiving the game ISO's would be the best (and cost effective too: @ $129 that 500Gb drive costs $0.26/Gb)

I was just clarifying that you can use ImgBurn to do a 1 to 1 backup of a backup Wii Game.

The only solution you provided was to go out and spend $129 on a 500GB hard drive and save the ISO's on it. Then have the chance of the HDD crashing and losing all those Wii ISO's that you have saved.

To me a cheaper way to make a new backup would be to spend the $20 to $30 on a compatible LG drive and just make a new backup of your game if the previous backup game has been lost or damaged.

But the question that was asked was how to make a backup of a backup. Using ImgBurn is the cheapest and most efficient way to do it in my opinion.

Hey guys thanks to both of you. After searching this site for a few more hours last night I came across the ImgBurn way. I used it last night 5 times. Works great. Thanks Falcon, I was thinking about getting an external HD anyways, this 60GB laptop just isn't enough with the WII backups and DVD backups that I do. Thanks again to both of you.

If you do go ahead and get the external HD, just be careful: if you try to burn games/DVD's to (or from) it you could experience some buffer underrun problems (basically the burner burning faster than the external HD is sending the info to the burner this ='s usually a failed burn.

You would want to copy the image to your local drive 1st and then burn it (or if rawdumping a game dump it to your local drive and then copy it to the external) (Same thing if you're trying to burn from/dump to a networked drive, it always safest to do these things to a locally attached internal drive and then copy to where you want it to be archived.)
