Well i have been trying to decide between two processors AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 2.80GHz Socket AM2 and the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz. Why is the OEM version more expensive than the retailed box version both on newegg and on tigerdirect. Also, the price difference is about 60-100 for the Fx-62. Is it truely a better processor? What are you thoughts. This system will be used for gaming and also desktop applications, mostly gaming, internet, etc.

I was researching, and a lot of reviews say the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600 outperforms the 6000 and is more energy efficient. What are your thoughts?

Wait and get one?
They're cheaper than Athlon64 X2s, faster and much more energy efficient, and have been out for over a year. That's not always an option for everybody though. Why post an article from 2004?

That makes no sense. I'm not a fanboy of either, but if you're upgrading your whole system there's absolutely no reason to go with anything but a Core 2 Duo. broaden your horizons, fanboyism only gets you worse stuff in the end because you refuse to research what is best. The FX-62 is too expensive, the 6000+ will beat it.

I was just messing around with the fanboy talk, a better intel was just more expensive that is why i opted for the X2-6000.

Given that the E6400 is better than the 6000+ is that still true?

i guess i was mistaken, i was looking at toms hardware guide trying to compare benchmarks for both. @sammorris, not trying instigate you being wrong or anything, where did you read the 6400 outperforms the x2 6000?

I noticed that the e6600 outperforms the x26000 in most benchmarks and for 50 bucks more and running at less power, i think thats the one i am going to go for.

An E6400 will easily go up to more than 3.2GHZ. Core 2 Duo is the way to go these days.
