How do I set my preferred USB joystick as Joy_1 in Windows XP?

Hi.

I have two gamepads connected to my PC both via seperate USB sockets.

When they are both connected, windows seems to automatically set one as Joy_1 and the other as Joy_2.

The problem is that I want Joy_2 to be Joy_1 and vice versa. I have set the gamepad that XP assigns to Joy_2 as my preferred device in the control panel but it still keeps it labeled as Joy_2. This is a pain and the only way I can get it to become Joy_1 is by unplugging the other gamepad which is really inconvenient.

Does anyone have any idea on how I can permanently swap the controllers round?
