AVI playback has little arrows and lines.

When playing back a downloaded AVI file, the image has little arrows or lines that move with the movie. It started when I downloaded a torrent.
Anybody know what this is and how to cure the problem?

Run the file through GSpot and see what is says, codecs, rendering ability etc.

I have tried Gspot and it did not find a missing codec. I have downloaded Vlc media and it plays the files. Somehow 1 of the codecs in my computer has been corrupted.
