Recently i've had problems burning "disk to disk" (never had them before two weeks ago approx). Even with a new DVD-rom drive nero fails to complete it's burns generally after writing 80% to 90%. Very, very, annoying. Here's my most recent log....

Hi dusty107
1st thing edit out the serial # in the log - don't need someone else using it. It begins w/ 5C at the top of the log.

DVD-Copy on the fly
Turn off copy on the fly. If Nero has a problem reading the disc which it is here it will save you a dvd. Burning on the fly copies and burns at the same time so any little glitch and bam burn fails and you have a coaster.

Error reading data
Check the back of the disc for any dirt, smudges or scratches. Try cleaning it off with something non abrasive.

Have you tried both drives to read the disc? One may do better then the other.

What type of disc are you trying to copy? Is it an original or a backup of something?

Recorder: <_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG> Version: 2.19
Update the firmware to the latest - 2.1b.

DiskPeripheral : ST3250824A IdeChnDr Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615 IdeChnDr Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off

Check and make sure DMA it's on for these drives. Nero may not be reporting it correctly with intel application acceleration driver on your pc. Here's a guide to get you in the right direction - link

Nero Version: 7.0.1.4
Nero can use an update too - may not fix the read error but several fixes and enhancements since the version you are using. The latest is 7.10.1.0

Hey dusty107,

One thing that jumps out at me in your log is that your DMA is off for your read drive:

CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615 IdeChnDr Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : DV6206H EFT326F 2.0B vaxscsi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : EV7594U GPU146L 1.0 dtscsi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off

This can mess up your disk to disk.

Here's a guide that Binkie7 supplies to turn it back on:

Thanks for the info guys. My problem right now is setting the DMA. For some bizarre reason my device manager options appears to be different from everyone elses. If i go into either primary/secondary ide or cd/dvd drives neither have a tab for "advanced options" or for enabling DMA of any kind. The only tabs in the window after double-clicking the selected device are "general, driver, detailes, dvd region, volumes, and properties". I'm stuck as to how to change this. It worked fine until my previous burner (an MSI) finally wore out and was replaced with a sony.

dusty,

Follow binkie7's guide to uninstall your primary & secondary IDE controlers & reboot. Windows will reinstall the controllers and reset your DMA.

Hey guys. I've done exactly as the guides have describes - more than once. Thus far i've only gotten my master drives on the primary and secondary to switch to DMA. It seems the drives marked as slaves won't change.....

I'm wondering if i can switch of PIO through bios would that work? Looking through Bios earlier i found that PIO is on Auto (with a selection of "disable, auto, or mode 0-4) and UDMA is also on auto (you can choose either auto or disable). Any ideas?

First off thanks for the link. I made the changes using Intel Application Accelerator, changing the transfer mode limit from "no Limit" to "UDMA-2". The interseting thing i noticed before making this change was that I.A.A. listed the Current Transfer Mode as UDMA-2 (before and after making any changes) on all secondary channel drives. If thats the case why is Nero info tool listing the slave drive with DMA off? Disk to disk burns continue to fail at 80%....

Nero only read straight ide channels correctly - the intel acceleration application can throw it off - same w/ Raid, Nvidia etc.

Did you do the other changes - like turn off copy on the fly, update firmware etc?

Is it failing when reading the disc or burning?
