I downloaded the 64bit edition of Kubuntu, but I need to make a boot disk out of those files. On their site it says just burn it onto a disk and that's it, so that's what I did. I extracted all the stuff from the zip file and put it on a disk, but the PC doesn't wanna boot of it (it as if it doesn't see it). I burned the disk in a universal format (not win. only), but I know that I didn't do it right. I know you might say, just get a live CD it's easier and it's free, but those take 6-10 weeks to deliver. So I was just wondering what files out of all of these (below) do I actually have to burn onto the disk.

open your burning program of choice and 'burn cd image' or similar, that 'zip' file you have should in fact be an ISO image file..

hi dude.. Just use imgburn and burn it as a image or saved project.. Vista should allow that. Your hardware IS 64 bit? You might do better if you have nvidia graphics with sabayon. Dan reported it worked out of the box.. and that's an achievement in itself. http://www.sabayonlinux.org/
p.s.. still no ideas from the vista people about why you can't access my site.. seems none of them can, but don't want to admit a major deliberate block on unregistered/approved sites.

Wasup, ..thanks for all the help, I got it to work yesterday. I get some booting errors sometimes, so I'm going to try Ubuntu.

Now that I've tried both Ubuntu and Kubuntu (I'm typing this in Kubuntu), I don't know which to choose. With Kubuntu I get some booting errors sometimes (something to do with some timer???), and both OSs seem to have dodgy support with my graphics card. The resolution isn't great that's all.
So my question is which one should I pick. I do a lot of 3D stuff and photo editing (I use Blender for the 3D stuff), and I'd like to tinker around a bit. I found Ubuntu much more user friendly, and Kubuntu a bit buggy, but I still am not sure which OS is the right one for me.

they're all the same difference to me, try one for a bit, try the other, then maybe try a few others; i'm a mandriva freak myself and don't bother with too many distro's these days

I might just try that.....so far Ubuntu is in first place.
BTW, sabayon is one big OS. Right now I'm downloading the mini edition, cuz the full thing is going to take me 8.5 hours to download. :/

Does anyone know of a really good, efficient and versatile KDE OS?

KDE distros by default..
pclinuxOS (don't like.. too much like windows)
FreeSuSE (not as free as they say)
Slackware (experience needed)
Videolinux (broken)
and a heap of others.. you can change your desktop manager very easily... Oooo.. can't remember which file you need to edit.. but you change "start GDM" to "start KDE" or "start xfce4" or whatever window manager you want to install.
I'm not sure with n00buntu, but I assume if you apt-get install kde then it should give you an option in desktop/preferences.
reference.. http://codeidol.com/unix/ubuntu/The-Linu...Window-Manager/
I use xfce4 (debian lenny) on the server, all command line can get hard.

thanks. ..I checked them out, and PClinuxOs and Sabayon linux have these cheap looking animated windows...do you know if OpenSuse has those and if OpenSuse is actually any good.
Cheers.
