Hi,
I'm using zone alarm internet security suite, and utorent. I have utorent allowed through my router, "2wire 1701HG Gateway" and allowed in Zone alarm Internet security suite.
I cannot figure out how to get the port open. I've also edited the stupid windows firewall settings, but windows firewall is disabled.
I can't get better download speeds than about 30k/s for any one download, and about 50k/s total. I have a faster internet connection than that. Can anyone help with this problem?
I don't think it's a bad provider - it's AT&T DSL.
the warning I get at the bottom of Utorrent is this:
No incoming connections
unless the icon turns green, it could indicate a problem with your network setup
And when I click the icon,
I have that current port stuff, and when I click test to see if it's forwarded properly, it says it's closed. I don't know why traffic is still managing to trickle through a closed port, but whatever.
I know a good amount about PCs, but networking and internet stuff absolutely baffles me. I'm getting a bit fed up with these slow speeds, so any help you can provide quickly would be awesome!
alright, adding protocol encryption shot up my download speeds, but I'm still experiencing the same original max speeds as before.
I'm going to take a look at that plucky stuff, but any other help you can offer in the meantime would be great.
EDIT
Hey, I just got a great idea. Couldnt' I just change the port to one that's always open and doesn't pose a security threat of some sort? Wouldn't that fix this whole stupid port being closed problem?
Can someone tell me how to do that, if that would work?
You could try port 1720, other processes use it. Other than that, make sure you are using a port over 10,000 that isn't the default. On public sites only, you could try enabling both DHT options at options>preferences>bittorrent but that shouldn't be a port issue.
