To start with, I know I can call the cable company for tech support to try to get it working again, but in this situation, it is not an option. Basically, I had cable service thru Comcast, I stopped the service, but for whatever reason, my internet service never stopped and have not paid for it for over a year, I don't want to call them and bring attention to this if at all possible. This past Saturday I was on the computer and the power went out, when it came back on, the internet no longer worked. An icon in my system tray says there is a network cable unplugged. I replaced the ethernet cable and still no luck, hooked a tv up to the cable connection and it worked fine. The modem is a RCA cable modem model # DCM425C. On the fron of the modem, there is five lights. The 1st one is "messages" and it is not lit up, the second one is "cable activity" and it is flashing green, the 3rd one is "cable link" and it is a solid green light, the 4th is "pc link" and it is flashing green, and the last one is "internet" and it is solid green. I checked both the network card and the modem and windows says both are working properly. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Is the 'network cable unplugged' about the right network connection?

Thanks for the responses, the network cable is not disconnected, i even replaced it to make sure it didnt go bad. I did unplug the coax cable, the power, and the network cable, but I dont remember if did all at the same time. I will try that when I get home. If anyone else has suggestions, I will try them all when I get home from work. Thanks again for the help.

Had the wife completely disconnect the modem for 10 minutes and restart the computer, still no go. Had her do run/cmd ping localhost and it got a reply, so it doesnt sound like the network card is bad. Anyone more suggestions?

uninstall the network card in device manager, restart windows so can find new hardware as in the netcard & load it's driver. other option is to do a system restore to before the power failure. is that modem just connect to pc via net cable or can it also be connected by usb cable?

I did uninstall the drivers for the nic card, and windows reinstalled them. Still no go. Tried to do the system restore several times, kept telling me that no changes have been made to the computer so couldnt restore. It does also hook up through a usb port. Hooked it up and still no go, tried hooking it up to a laptop with the usb cable and installed the drivers and it worked. I unplugged the usb cable from the laptop and hooked back up to the desktop, didn't change anything and it worked. Only problem is I really don't kow what part of the process fixed it, anyways thanks so much for the help.

You would have needed the drivers for USB regardless, but at least you have it working again.
