I have just bought a new (ish) laptop.
It's an HP DV1665EU and I'm really happy with it overall.
The design has been around a few years but I assume this is a fairly recent model as it's a core duo with a dual layer burner etc etc.
The truth is that it was bought as a catalogue return so I can't be sure of it's age (or can I find out some way?)
It is the same as the DV1000 but higher spec.
Right then,,,the problem.
The card slot is confusing me!
My Echo Indigo card slot soundcard will not fit.
I was thinking that maybe this is a different type of card slot?
(the sound card worked with my previous HP laptop)
Are there different types of card slot that maybe my soundcard will not fit in to?
The thing is that this laptop comes with an infrared remote (to control the dvd player functions and xp media centre)
This is supposed to store in the card slot but it will nto fit either and was packaged seperatley when the laptop was delivered.
The blanking plate from the card slot has a cutout type shape which obviously the remote control or my sound card do not and so they will not fit.
I looked inside the card slot and there is something there that explains this but it looks like it is meant to be there, and also there only appears to be one row of pins (my sound card has 2 rows)
Can somebody tell me what's going on,,I mean this remote should fit,,is it possible that the card slot had been changed for another type?

Hi ddp and thanks for the reply. I see what has happened, the seller described it as having a PC CARD slot. Maybe that wasn't 100% accurate. I didn't even realise that there was a new type of slot, so I guess this machine is more up to date than I thought.
Shame there are no DJ specific sound cards in Expresscard shape yet.
(My Echo Indigo had seperate master and cue outputs which was nice)
Looks like I might have to swap it for a Numark DJIO box, not as tidy but more than acceptable.
The little remote thing is still annoying though.
The older version of this laptop defo has the 'old' PC Card, PCMCIA (whatever) slot which the remote fits into. It looks like they have updated the laptop with the Expresscard slot but not bothered to redesign the remote to fit into the slot (as it does not have the 'cut out' shape) Either that or it was lost and the seller has found this one as a replacement,,,but I can't find reference to a remote that would fit the slot anywhere.
So, I have learnt something I suppose, thanks again

see if there is an adapter to go from 1 type of slot to another type of slot. i know there is a pc card adapter for desktop computers so maybe there is for laptops especially yours.
Yes, an adpater could be an option (they do exist)
but because the new slot is more narrow from about half
way in, even with an adapter and card device I put in
there is going to stick out a mile,,,,I don't fancy
my £100 sound card geting snapped.
I've put it on ebay with intention of using the money to get
an external sound card instead. I fancy the numark DJIO as is has
a mic socket so I would not have to take an external mixer out with
me.
As for the remote,,,I forgot to look on ebay, and there are loads
of expresscard slot shaped ones. So I have listed mine and hope to swap for one that will store away nicely. The seller of the laptop must have lost the original and stuck one from an older model in the box. I'm not bothered as I got this thing at a bargain price and there is not even a dead pixel to moan about. 2gb of ram now too, it's rather quick.
