Normally I create my DVDs using nero vision.

However when I have subtitles in a form of .srt, how do I implant that onto the DVD when using nero vision to make my movie?

You can convert the avi and save the movie files to a folder with Nero.

Next you demux the video and audio and recombine them with the .srt file into a new dvd folder which can now be burned with Nero.

You need VobEdit to demux the DVD files and DVDAuthorGUI to combine everything back into a new dvd folder.

Run VobEdit > 'Open', select VTS_01_1.VOB (the first large VOB of the title, the rest will come in at the same time).
Demux > select 'All Video and Audio'.
The files will be saved as an .m2v and an ac3.

Run DVDAGUI
Set the DVD format as PAL or NTSC.
'Add Title' and select the .m2v and ac3
Select 'Extras' and 'Add/Edit Subtitles'.
In the Subtitles window, 'add subtitle' (locate the .srt file)
In the Subtitles window, 'fps' should reflect the DVD (PAL 25, NTSC 29.97)
Reset the bottom margin if required (60 in my case) and 'accept'.
Author DVD
Test the output with the media player then either readjust the sub position or burn to DVD.

and this won't give problems with the ifo? how do the IFO gets updated?
This seems too easy, too good to be true.

I'm supposing that this method WILL NOT preserve the Nero-created menus?????

Perhaps, if you had downloaded the listed software (all free) and put it to the test, your disbelief would have been tempered by experience ;)

DVDAuthorGUI creates IFO's when the files are muxed.
Menu creation in Nero is an option, once the movie has been reduced to elementary streams, there is only video and audio.
However, you can create your own menu.

Create Menu graphic Page (correct size pal/ntsc) with VCDMenu Lite

Convert Menu Graphic to 'still' image and link to VOB's with DVD Author GUI

????? I said:
"I'm supposing that this method WILL NOT preserve the Nero-created menus?????"

I was referring to THAT as what was too good to be true, not the simple ability of DAG to author DVDs?!?

The preservation of the menus was the whole point, for you to say (smugly? ? ) that the menus are an option ....

guess you misunderstood. On the other hand, for you to suppose that I meant that a Dvd author program could not author DVDs is ... odd.

the maker of dag, liquei117 told me that his program cannot preserve nero menus.

Not really unsolvable...

Best to add the subs at the authoring step, for sure. I know that NeroVison 3 doesn't support subtitles at all, not sure about NeroVision 4. So, if you want to author a DVD with subs, NeroVision might not be the best tool. Maybe DVDGuiAuthor or IFOEdit.

If you're stuck with an already authored DVD and you want to add new subs to it, keeping the original menus, you can do that. Not the best way to go I think, but still you can do it:

You have to hardsub the file by using AVIRecomp, this program helps to embed the subtitle into the clip. I've been using this program all along... hope this help.

Is a free software, you can google for it.

Hardsubbing? To add an .srt subtitle file to a DVD?

The goal here is to create a DVD with subs, not hardburn subs into an .avi file.

I found a way to do it, add switchable subs to an already made DVD.

You could follow this guide

The first 2 steps might be better explained here:

Basically, there are three steps:
1. Demux the existing DVD
2. Add subtitles. This'll result in changed VOBs
3. Remux the changed VOBs

The quick and dirty nature of the first guide lies in the fact that you just replace the old VOB-files in the old VOB structure. with the new VOB-files.
You don't have to care about Ifo's and such.
The menus might not work completely as before but you can navigate through it, and see subs.

Hardcoding subs is nasty
