Hi,
I have a HP Photosmart 8450 printer, can anyone tell me if it can print directly onto printable disc's. DVD/CD?
And if so how?

No. That printer will not print directly onto discs. It can only print onto special labels designed for CD-Rs (generally OK) or to polyester labels suited for DVD+/-R media (fair but far better for DVDs than the always destructive paper labels designed for CD-Rs.)
