my friends computer broke but i think the cpu is ok, but he said i can salvage whatever i want from it.....now can i just swap in his cpu into my mobo...im pretty sure its the same socket

If you post the motherboard make/model of both and ideally the cpu info we can verify if what your suggesting is possible.
