Hello,

I've got a Lite-on LDW-851S flashed to the latest firmware and according to its specs it should be able to burn DVD+R discs at 8x speed. But when i try to backup ps2 games in dvd decrypter or alcohol 120% it sais something like "Illegal speed (8x) for this medium, burning at 3.2x" which results in crappy playable games. Can i solve this problem by buying a new writer? Like one of the newest NEC models?

Hi Miscman
It's an older Liteon and the last time the firmware was updated was in 2004 before the Taiyo Yuden 16x were big in the market.
So I'm thinking that the drive is using a generic write strategy and that's the reason it's reducing the burn speed.

So yeah I think a new burner would solve the problem. Look at the new LiteOn's too - still great drives.

Hi binky7,

thanks for the quick reply, and yes you are correct :) my bro just burned a game for me using the exact same settings on his Lite-On DH-20A1P drive which he purchased about a month ago, and it resulted in a flawless copy at 8x speed, so im gonna get one of those :)
