Hi all, I am wondering as to why my computer keeps restarting. It boots up, goes through the BIOS loading, into The Windows XP loading screen. Then the screen goes black, powers down... then restarts itself. It will keep doing the same thing over and over again, anyone have any hints

It sounds to me like your hard drive has come bad sectors on it.

Do you have a windows xp disk?

If so put the disk and and boot from the disk (usually hit f12 and select your optical drive) it will prompt you to press any key to boot from disk. press any key

Let it load through the screen untill you are able to select an option.

Select "R" to start the recovery console. Next you'll see a prompt to enter a number corresponding to the Windows XP installation that you need to repair. Enter "1" and then supply your Administrator password if there is one

Now type

chkdsk c:/r

NOTE this will take a long time to complete. If it cannot complete then your drives in pretty bad shape.

If it completes try to boot back into windows like normal and it may work.

Also if you know what manufactuer your hard drive is you can download their diagnostic utility to scan it for the condition of the drive

Hope this helps :)

There can be many reasons for this. One most common is moving the boot HDD from one computer to another expecting the new system to boot off it. This will not work unless the MB chipsets are identical.

IF this your case then you need to do a repair install.
