confused about shadow of colossus ending help

(spoiler alert some parts in this thread tell the ending or parts of the game so if you haven't beaten it yet don't read on) ok please help me i just finished beating shadow of colossus and i get the story from the beginning like he comes to the cursed land to bring this sacraficed girl to life and the god guy says that if you defeat all the colossus's he would bring her back to life but at the ending they turn him into this big shadow guy is that cuz they tricked him into doing that so they could reserect that shadow guy? if not what and i don't get it when he falls in that whit pond of light thing and dissapears and then the girl wakes up and meets the main characters horse ? (i thought it died you think after falling off a giant cliff he would) and he leg is only broken and they walk together to that pond and theres a baby boy lieing there? (like what the hell did the main character turn into that?) and they walk together into that area behind the shrine and that deer comes and looks at the baby and that eagle comes and flys away anyway can someone fill me in its an awesome games but the ending confuses me? please help me understand
