Hi,

Any sony burner(dw d56a) users with experience of burning dual layer discs?

Have used it with 'normal' blank dvd's 4.7gb without a single problem, recently purchased TUFFDISC DVD+DL. Had about 5 fails in a row. Was curious to know if any SONY D56A could tell me which DL media they have used and which works??

Many thanks

When burning DL discs, always use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.
As you have found out.........not all DL discs are the same.

Also, what software are you using to burn DL discs? Nero is one of the best burning softwares, but it's not the best at burning DL discs. Try IMGBurn software. You can get it here: http://www.imgburn.com
Good luck!

Sony generally recommends only Verbatim DLs for use with its burners.

Thanks for replies, not a dell laptop.Vaio desktop

I'm a newb too but i think commercial dvd's are on dual layer thus should work on stand alone. haha i'm betting it's not that simple though

Some standalone dvd players have trouble playing burned DL discs. If you booktype them to DVD Rom, they'll be more likely to play.
Here's some info on booktyping:

I can't say for sure, but a lot of Sony's are rebadged LiteOns or BenQs, which are able to booktype, so it probably can. Give it a try with a regular +R disc. If it works for it, the DLs will work too.
