Gd day all!


Basically i have a 1gb infineon ddr2 533mhz stick in my pc at the moment and was reading that if i get another stick i culd use dual channel? whatever that is. The thing is i was gonna upgrade to another stick anyway, but if i bought a 1gb samsung ddr2 533mhz to go in the second slot will i be able to use dual channel?

No, It won't work. The RAM has to be COMPLETELY identical.

If you want 2GB in dual-channel then buy a kit.

Good brand and not too hard on the wallet.

When you install this the other RAM is effectively throw-away RAM as it ruins the dual-channel... maybe for another computer though?

It would have to be the same exact brand, model, speed, CAS Latency.

If you have the same page you got your current RAM at you should be able to get the same stuff. Then, yes, you could use Dual Channel.

But I recommend getting a kit. It's not much more and you're sure to get Dual Channel.
