ok just an fyi, i'm not a newbie. i had a recent account, skmborder, i think but it seems i lost the password and the email to it so, i just gave up and created a new one. but thats not my problem.
i've been copying my dvd's for some time now, with the help from afterdawn.com and its many patrons (thank you so very much :) ). my pc crashed, i got a new harddrive, and i redownload DVDshrink and imgburn. it makes an ISO just fine, and it burns just fine, but when it gets to the verify, it stops at about 75% saying "Check Condition" and "Unrecovered Read Error" i've cleaned the laser lens, i've even gone through making an iso with DVD decryptor and then shrinking it then burning it. same problem. i dunno if its somewhere in DVD shrink, or if its imgburn, or if its my lens. but it always happens at 75% . if someone could help me out or point me to the right thread, that'd be awesome.
well i'm copying all my season DVD's. i started at Family guy and then went to futurama. futurama volume one disc 2 did it and so did family guy volume 4 disc 2. it starts off with a little flicker then it gets really bad like its skipping.
and no i dont have nero. is nero like, the shiznit? never tried it. maybe i'll do that.

this is not a software or a hardware problem....... this is a media problem. you can avoid flickering and skipping by using better media.... ones that are more compatible and have better quality than the ones you are using. Just because you used the same kind of brand before doesn't mean that you can't get a bad batch of blank DVDs from that manufacturer! the better disks are the ones made in Japan. You might have a hard time finding them in the stores.....Sony, Fuji, Maxell are some brands that outsource to MIJs! Check the labels and make sure it says MIJ! or you can buy one of the best recognized and best quality made blank DVD out there: Taiyo Yuden. You can buy them online at supermediastore.com, rima.com, meritline.com and other reputable online stores! Verbatim (made in Tawain/Singapore) is the only exception to the MIJ rule! They are top notch too and you can find them in stores!
1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php 4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!
follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.
not the dvd player. tried in 3 different ones. i'm using the SonyDVD-R. thats what i've always used. but i noticed, on the bottom on the older ones, there is a big purple ring. on the newer ones there is a thin white ring. and i dont see that mjr anywhere one the labels. i might have to switch over to something else. well i copied my transformers game for ps2, worked 100% even verified 100% ... i think. i'll play around with the discs.
thanks for the tips. if you have more, i'm an open notebook, so write all you know.
ok Ihoe, all this information was useful. right now, i'm reburning futurama disc 2 with one of my fathers philipsDVD+R. he's letting me test it to see if sony has gone wacky with there DVD's. if so, that sucks a nut because i just bought 2 50 packs from walmart and i've opened one already. never used the disks though, just looked at the bottom to see if they had the little white line as well.
searched amazon.com for the taiyo yuden DVDs and they have a 100 spindle from Media Supply. now should i go with the +Rs or -Rs? i read that article, and somewhat understood it. if it helps you any, i have a magnavox vhs and dvd player. guess where that came from. yea, walmart. 4 days after christmas it was clearance. worth a little more than a paperwieght, so which media should i go with. your the expert, i'm not clicking the checkout button till i get your ok.
this just in! the philipsDVD+R my father gave me works 100% !!! i checked the label and it says that its made in taiwan. and i cant find the mij deal on it.
but... i'm thinkin i might go with supermediastore.com for the Taiyo Yuden DVDs. i'm gonna wait on IHoe's response weather i should get +R or -R
thank you everyone for you patience and help, especially you IHoe
