Need for speed most wanted performance upgrade marker?

I have been playing need for speed most wanted for the PC for a little while. And I have what I think is a simple question about the performance upgrade markers that you can select every time you beat someone on the blacklist. When I select the performance upgrade marker it says it will enable a unique upgrade for anyone of your cars. But when I go to the shop to find the new upgrade I don't see anything different or anything that wasn't there before. How do I find the unique performance upgrades that I am supposed to get when I choose the performance upgrade marker?

I am pretty sure this is a dumb question, but thanks in advance for your help.

I have the game for the PS2 so I can't easily post a screenshot. But I do remember when you go the performance shop there is a separate tab for the parts you unlocked.
