I just got one of theese things to see if they are worth the hype. Well I hook the thing up and absolutly nothing happens but the blue light comes on. Was just wondering if any other on here has experienced this.

It is not listed there. Like I said Nothing happens. From what I understand a WD splash screen is suposed to come up when you plug it in. I have yet to see that.

That seems unlikely just by plugging it in. Go to disk management (Start->Run and type diskmgmt.msc) and see if theres a new drive in there. If there is, and it's identifiable as the WD, then format it and away you go.

Looked in dis management and its not there. Directions say just plug it up and its automatic. No drivers to install or nothing. Now I have been researching this and it seems some systems do not give enough power through the USB to power it correctly. This may be my case. If so I might just get an IDE converter and use it internaly.

NO I dont but I tried one thing that gave different results. I have a USB port on my printer meant for mem cards only. I plugged the drive into it just to see wht would happen. The blue light actualy blinked wheras in the computer it just comes on without blinking. Unfortunatly the USB on the printer will not act as a port to the computer.

You can't use 2.5" Hard drives with non-powered USB hubs, you usually need to plug them directly into the PC.

No conflicts. The drive sets up nothing. The only thing that happens is the blue light turns on solid. No blinking, nothing.

del, does that come with 2 usb cables or 1 as my external 2.5" 40gig needs to use both to work. my previous 6.4 gig only needed 1 usb cable. also found out with the 40 that i might have to switch around the usb cables on the back usb ports to get it to work right. couldn't use the front usb ports for some reason as only worked on backside.

Has only 1 usb plug. I was unaware they made them with 2. What does that do? Something I can rig up with all these USB cables laying arround?

on mine the cables are in 2 different thickness, the thick 1 which is regular provide data & power whereas the 2nd 1 is thinner as it only provides power. on my old 6.4gig i used just the thick cable but on the 40 ihave to use both cables to get enough power. when it is connected to the pc, do you hear a clicking noise from the drive?

OK, Thanks to the idea given to me by DDP I made a USB cable with a second plug. I took another cable and spliced the power into the exsiting one. This did change the result. The blue light now flashes and device manager will refresh like it is trying to install a new device. However it does not install it so it still is not working but I got close.

I fixed it. Here is what I did. I opened the thing up to see what the HDD was. Its a SATA 2.5 (Didnt know they came that way) Well I tested it out one last time while open and it worked.
There is foil wrapped on it where the plug goes in. For some reason if that foil is on the drive wont work. So I put it back together without the foil in place and now it works.
Thanks for the tips. Oh yeah I replaced the USB cable with a fresh one laying around the house. Now it runs off only one cable, no need to use a second for more power.
