I posted this a little while ago and I am still having problems (see following thread). http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/549974

The newer and larger the dvd the bigger the problem. I tried burning at the slowest speed and it improved the situation a little but not enough.

How do a check the firmware to see if it needs updating? The following is the DVD burner that came with the PC. TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653A Is this a low end POS? In the past, I always used Plextor drives and never had problems. I have never heard of TSSTcorp.

Is there something else I need to consider? Man I am really frustrated!!! Any ideas I will pursue. Thanks

Hi zonkermjd
Looks like you're using Nero. Nero saves the burn logs which can be helpful so post the last one.
Here's where to find them and how to post them - link

Unfortunately, I have not saved any of the log files. Nero ends the burn and says that it was completed successfully. Put the disk in dvd player and sooner or later problems crop up.
I will waste another disk and save the log. Back in a few.

Actually Nero automatically saves the logs - saves the last 10 whether that are successful or not. Check out that link where to find them.

no nerohistory.txt file found on the PC - I did an advanced search. I am beginning to think the disk themselves might be the issue. While the new disk checked out when I ran DVD Identifier, they are new to me and the last batch of DVD media did not seem to have the same issues.

I have the step away from the PC for a while. Thanks for your help

Not a problem.

I couldn't find a firmware update for the drive so I'm thinking this drive came with the pc. If it did the pc manufacturer would be the one supporting this drive. You'd need to check their site for any updates.

What does DVD Identifier show as the manufacturer of the discs? Could also be a compatibility problem with the player or just poor quality media.

Sounds like the usual wrong media for your burner. One size does not fit all. Taiyo Yuden -R 8X seem to work well in most drives old and new. Verbatim -R 16X for new drives.

Looking for a new burner? Check here.
