AM2+ ?

from what i have read about the new AMD phenom the socket is AM2+. is this a different socket then AM2. and if it is a different socket will the processor be backwards compatable with a regular AM2 socket?

yes the new socket AM2+ cpu will be able to use it on AM2 mobo, but AM2 cpu wont be ab;e to use it on AM2+ mobo...but if you do use a AM2+ cpu on a AM2 Mobo, it wont be able to produce its full performance, b/c you're limiting it, e.g HT3

Socket AM2+ is a CPU socket which is the immediate successor to Socket AM2 currently used in several AMD processors such as Athlon 64 X2. Socket AM2+ will be a mid migration from Socket AM2 to Socket AM3 and will be fully compatible with Socket AM2, so processors designed for Socket AM2 will work on Socket AM2+ motherboards and vice versa.

It'll work either way round, just bear in mind the new processors will be faster.
