Need Serious uTorrent help!

OK i have switched from azureus to uTorrent and have never looked back but now all of the sudden i download a file and a few minutes later the whole internet connection drops! now i read from a few tutorials that i should minimize the global connection to half or less, which i did but it only fixed it for a while. it went from 50 connections to only 10 and it still doesn't work. Now i don't have a router all i have is a modem with good speeds can someone help me fix this problem because i can't seed or download torrents from anywhere. I have also tried capping the download and upload speed and that didn't work either. I need help bad!
