OK - I am going to explain this is perfect detail - so it may be a bit long...

A friend of mine burnt me DVD's of shows that I was interested in. Everything went great - except he put 2 or 3 shows on each disc.

However, I did not want that. I wanted a separate DVD for each show (for various reasons - not really necessary for this discussion). I guess it was my fault for not telling him to do that in the first place, but it's too late now...

I thought about it for a while, and thought "maybe I can ask him to burn all the DVD's again, a DVD for each show". But I realised that would be time-consuming and tedious.

Then I remembered I had Nero Recode installed. A lightbulb suddenly went off in my mind, "hey... maybe I can fix this problem with Recode".

After experimenting with the first 3 tasks a bit (shown on the main menu), it seemed like 'Compile a DVD' was the best fit for my situation.

So I went into the task 'Compile a DVD'. I added/imported a "title" to the project (title = show, in this case). So, out of the 3 shows on the disc, I selected 1 "show" (or title).

(does 'Fit to target' [in this case, single-layer DVD] change quality at all, if it's only about 1.7GB ? Is it possible to make that 1 show (1.7GB) physically fill the entire disc? Would quality differ?)

Then the last screen popped up - the screen which details what to burn to. I selected 'burn to DVD'. I also selected the last two checkboxes - 'High quality mode' and 'Advanced analysis'. (should I check these items? I want perfect quality - the exact same from the original DVD. I don't mind how long it takes.)

Then I played the new DVD I just burnt (with only 1 show on the DVD like I wanted in the first place). I did not see any noticeable decrease in quality. Is there any, at all? "Nero Recode allows you to recode non-copy-protected DVD movies to DVD without any noticeable loss of quality". Is that statement in effect for what I just did?

So, that's the entire story. Now, did I do everything alright? Was 'Compile a DVD' the correct task to execute this situation of mine? Everything seems good, but I posted this message to make sure I did everything the correct way, mostly quality-wise (because this is quite important). This was my first time ever with Nero Recode.

Many thanks for any comments - this will greatly help me with various things. Cheers.

Thank you for the kind words gwendolin.

I was mostly wondering if I could somehow compare the original DVD (with 3 shows) to the DVD I just burnt (with 1 show). Would there be any difference in quality (video or audio)?

In the end, "Compile a DVD" was the correct "task" to do this project? Would the other "tasks" do something similar to what I desired? Or even more efficiently?
