Hi , I am new here so bare with me.My system is a k9n platinum with a amd64 4200+, 2gig kingston ram, 8800gts 320mb,and soundblaster live 24bit internal, thermaltake 430watt psu.The problem I am having is, everytime I now try to burn a dvd, my pc will shut off, just like I hit the power switch.I passed this pc on to my friend who builds pcs and he is dumbfounded also.He checked the hardware and software and found no issues. We can go online and play new hardcore 3d pc games all day, and it runs fine.He thought maybe it was the new nero 7 ultra enhanced software I just purchased. So he burned a large file,350mb, on my msi cd burner. It worked fine. Then tried it on my liteon soh-1213s and guess what?My pc shut down!!??So we thought it must be the burner.I bought new lg burner today.Ripped one of my movies to my hdd, put a blank dvd in,proceeded to burn onto that disk, and again, after about 4% done, my pc shutdown again???????I am at a complete loss here, and I have wasted about 15 dvd blanks in the last week trying to figure out what the hell is going on here. Can anyone help me or give me some tips please????????!!!!!!!!!

Check the CPU temperature. The fan may be plugged or not running.

my corecenter program for my mainboard says 27c.The system has been cleaned, and all fans are running.I will say though, 2 days ago I tried burning the same movie. That time I tried writing it to dvd from my hdd where it was already burned to.It appeared to work.So I left it alone and thought problem solved.Half hour later came back , disk was ejected, but said burn process failed at 12x.???I set it at 4x before I left it alone?????? The pc was just fired up, that's why the temp is low.The cpu temp is usually around 46 celsius, running games all day long.

Try burning with ImgBurn, to see if it is the software.

http://www.imgburn.com/

Run ImgBurn
Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
if it's an ISO image to be burned, select 'Mode' > 'Write'

Since you've already ruled out that it is not the burner, try plugging the IDE cable from that burner into a different port on the motherboard if you have any extra available.

Thanks to an old thread for subzerohc, I have resolved my problem. After throwing away about 20 coasters, replacing my psu, testing ram etc,I swithced ultra dma from 4 to 3 in my bios for dvd,and guess what,it burnt fine.Already ordered, and payed for new amd 6000+ and asus mainboard. What do you think about just keeping this board and installing cpu instead???Thanx guys
