I downloaded sabayon linux and burnt it, it was an ISO, and it says files are missing, so can someone give me a link to download a workin sabayon linux? I need some help... is Sabayon good? Are there better? Are there other non-mainstream OS? What are they.

look throught the mirrors Here and choose one clocse to you. i have not used sabayon but i have heard lots of good things about it. another good distro to try would be debian.

Ok... well do you have a link to Debian i tried to download it from http://thepiratebay.org but they had no torrents. Is it FTP, HTTP, or BitTorrent? And im getting a IBM Imagepad 600E and i found a tutorial that uses SUSE linux to "modernize it". Is SUSE any good?

choose how you want to install and what architecture you want.(i386 for most computers) if you have an internet connection with you computer you can download the net inst cd. it will connect to the internet and download all the installation files. or you can get the cd/dvd sets. and installation is easy just follow the instructions and you will be fine. i have not used suse so i dont realy know much about it.

SuSE let me down.. for debian get a "daily build".. last time I looked the netinstall iso's were messed up. Maybe that will change/has changed.
Sabayon is huge.. and being a gentoo distro feels odd for most regular *nix users.
It works beautifully, but not to my taste.. http://www.sabayonlinux.org/
*nix isn't windows.. It's free to download, use and own. There is no need to go rooting around the warez torrent sites to find it. Try http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php for live cd's.. no installation needed.. or the distros main site for whatever you choose, be that gentoo, suse, debian, slackware, mint or any of the other 350+ flavours. i use opensuse, but its pretty slow and im getting tired of it, so i dont really recommend it anymore

I have Sabayon Linux installed on my system in a triple boot with XP and Ubuntu. I have to say on a 64BIT system sabayon rocks. Everything worked for me straight out of the box, no need to set up flash etc (which is a bit of a pain in 4 bit systems as it is only for 32 bit at the moment). I have used Suse, red hat, Debian (which is still one of the best distros around), ubuntu and now Sabayon. I am not a *nix guru by any means, just very p*ssed at M$. The difference when you come from predominantly Debian based distros to a Gentoo distro can be off putting (installation takes sooooo much longer because it compiles everything), however I am overawed at teh work that has gone into this distro that it may be my main one for some time yet.
Always try the live cd version of a distro first, that way you do no harm to your PC, and you can see if the distro is compatible with your hardware setup (Live CD's tend to run slower than an installed system so don't be put off by the performance).
For 64Bit processors I reccomend Sabayon very highly, Linux Mint may be a better option for 32 Bit (Debian/Ubuntu based). (Personal opinion, no flame wars here)

Which version of Sabayon are you using (3.4x?)
I have it downloaded but yet to burn to DVD (3.4e). I found with the the last one I had needed to update the installer before i could install to my system. This means that when running the live DVD, you need to let it run right the way through until it is on your desktop, click update installer (if it is there) and then run the install to hard disk.
Also, can you post your PC specs to see if anything is amiss?

Here is the link i used to get the ISO i needed ftp://mirror.cs.vt.edu/pub/SabayonLinux/
From your specs i dont see much wrong except maybe the RAM you have. I am fortunate to have an AMD 2.4Ghz 64Bit CPU, 1 GB DDR2 Ram (@533Mhz) but at the moment no graphics card (next on my wish list).
Make sure you get the non 64 bit ISO, this is probably the best suited to you -- SabayonLinux-x86-3.4e.iso
I have not tried the new download just yet, time is an issue, but i should get to it through the weekend/next week.When burning the ISO, don't burn faster than 4x and see if that helps.
I'm off out for the night, post back and let me know how you get on.

sabayon is a great distro for beginners, its just a highly tweaked distro based off of gentoo, therefore it runs very speedily. I tried it for about a week, the only thing I didnt like about it was the fact that to much "stuff" had been done to it, not allowing for my own customizing as much as I like to.
