Its because i got a DVD in the USA and a would like to add danish subs to it so i can play it on my DVD-player in the livingroom.
This assumes that it's a NTSC disk.
It also assumes that the movie has been ripped and shrinked to fit a standard DVD-5 and is now in a folder.
If the final DVD needs to be in PAL format, it should be converted before going on (and references to NTSC should be changed to PAL).
(If you have subs which are synced for PAL, then they should be inserted into a PAL format DVD, else the timing will be off.)
VobEdit converts the movie to an audio and video stream.
The GUI adds the subtitles and creates a new DVD folder.
The original menu is not saved.
Run VobEdit > 'Open', select VTS_01_1.VOB (the first large VOB of the title, the rest will come in at the same time).
Demux > select 'All Video and Audio'.
The files will be saved as an .m2v and an ac3.
Run DVDAGUI
Set the DVD format as NTSC.
'Add Title' and select the .m2v and ac3
Select 'Extras' and 'Add/Edit Subtitles'.
In the Subtitles window, 'add subtitle' (locate the .srt file)
In the Subtitles window, 'fps' should reflect the DVD (PAL 25, NTSC 29.97)
Click 'Author DVD' and save the output.
Test the output with the media player then either readjust the sub position or burn to DVD.
Can your DVD player play NTSC DVD's? If yes, then all you have to do is add the subs to the DVD, making sure they sync up (PAL/NTSC) as attar mentioned.
I think the easiest guide to get started adding subs to a DVD is this one:
