i need advice plz
my computer cost me quite a bit, £1300 to be exact. i had 1 year warranty from the shop, its been 2 months after the warranty has ceased that i had a problem with the computer. the monitor doesnt show anything on screen so i went to a pc repair shop not far from where i live and they said they will test it out the back. After about 3 mins they said i needed a new graphics card so i said go ahead with it. cost me £150 for the service.
Now i am at home trying to play battlefield2 my favourite game, when the game starts i can barely move in game and when i shoot the computer gets a blue screen with physical error. my friend told me to turn down settings to low but still same happend.
My friend had a look inside the computer from the clear plastic side window and said theres only one ram stick in there, i just noticed this as they use to flash different colours up and down when i played the game. now only theres one flashing stick.
Has the shop conned me?

What are your specs? Also, try updating all of the drivers...

To find your specs? For XP, go to start, control panel, performance and maitnance, and click on system. Tell me what it says under the "system" catagory.
To find your graphics card, right click on your desktop, and click "properties". Then go to the settings tab. Then, tell me what it says under "display"

i got my friend round now just to help with responses and follow instructions.
Heres the info:
windows xp
dual xeon 2.4ghz
1024mb of ram
Radeon 9250
asus 19" tft
have i missed anything?

The radeon 9250 is very low end. You need at a minimun a radeon 9600 pro to get decent game play. Your ram is excellent most games play good on windows xp with 512mb. And your cpu is decent. It is definitely a video card problem, newer games will choke that video card. At best the the 9250 will play minigolf or pinball without problems.
If you buy another video card, make sure and tell them that you want it to play battlefield2(very graphics demanding game). Do you remember what the original video card you had was? Maybe get one similar to what was inside originally.

As everyone else said, the 9250 is a very poor card for gaming. I had a ATi DiabloTech 9800XT 256mb and it played BF2 with no problems. im not sure how good it would do with the more recent games though.
But anyways, £150 for a £50 card??? man, that pc shop killed you on that!
You can always buy a card your self, and could've saved yourself a good £100. All you really got to do it open the pc case, slip the card in the AGP/PCI-e slot, connect to power (if needed) and install the drivers. Real simple...

that was a big chunk of money out of my wage to pay for the service, i really miss playing it and would like if you could tell me what i should do next to sort it

Graphics card advice? Well, I think you're running n agp mobo, so if you want the best agp card ever created (and probably will always be that way)
The Gecube x1950xt is the way to go. I have one, and I had to get past many problems to get it to work. People on newegg.com complain about how it overheats, that happened to mine, but I got watercooling for it now and omega drivers, and it works like a charm.
Second best is the XFX 7950GT 512mb card. Also, people say they have problems with this one too, they say sometimes it dies within 2 months, but you can allways RMA it if you wanted to.
For a reliable card, that doesnt cost much and can play bf2, is a EVGA GeForce 7800GS 256MB. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130274)
Since I live in the US, its in dollars, but I'm sure you can find a store that sell it over in europe.

oh you wont believe what happened earlier today
i decided to go down to the pc shop where i got it serviced. i took my friend with me aswell just for support and i said advice was given to me by professionals i.e you lot. regarding the service i got from here and word was said that ive been ripped off!
my friend said about the card being rubbish and it was a overcharge for what i got. Then a man came out from the back claiming he was the manager of the shop, the same was repeated to him and then he asked for the the faulty card that this guy removed from my pc , he said he threw it away , so the manager said even if it was faulty you should have given it back to the customer.
The manager said how about a part refund of £30. i said your joking as i cant play battlefield2. so basically without writing a book here the deal i got was half the bill refunded and replacement of card with a better one. which would definately play the game.
My friend did a check which card it was geforce 6600 gt . i can play the game now so im happy and plus i got half my money back.

I'd guess that a 6600GT is at least 5 or 6 times as fast as the 9200. Just goes to show what a little complaining can do. You got ripped off, but you got your own back. Nice work!
