I just put my system together (well kinda, still waiting on HDD, CD/DVD drive, and PSU) and I had a 500watt deer PSU to tests it out with. So i connected it to the motherboard, and to a few fans all connected with 1 molex connector, when I first powered it on it just flashed the light and went off, so I played around with a few things, and still the same probelm, so then I only connected the motherboard and then it worked, it just goes to show how bad the Deer PSUs are. This is what it could not power: P5K-V, E6300, 2 x 1GB corsair RAM, Zalman 9500LED CPU cooler, 2 120mm fans, 2 60mm hdd fans, 2 green leds. (no hard drives, no dvd/cd drives.)

I got it to power just the zalman fan, cpu, ram and motherboard.

You know you could've fried your whole system with that? I allways have a old spare Antec 600 watt PSU to test things out with. Very reliable.

I had no idea they were that bad! It is sold by a place I really trust (Canada Computers, keep in mind i did not buy this PSU for myself) What really scared me was when it sparked with the fan connector, but it was ok after.

I am going with this Antec for my computer.

lol had it killed my computer the only thing that had a warranty was the motherboard, the rest was ebay stuff! (even the fans!)

Well, glad nothing bad happened. Good choice with the Antec PSU too. Extremely reliable!

There are two things you don't do with computer components:
Get a cheap power supply
and buy components off ebay that have no warranty

Yeah even so, you want to test them, not ruin them!

Never ever use a cheap PSU, I can't say never ever enough.
40.00 or 50.00 bucks might seem like a bargain until you fry a 1000.00 or more worth of components, then it won't seem so cheap.
I personally really like seasonic PSU's, but antech are very good also.
And Hey sammorris, how are you doing?
I'm gonna grab Extraction point this weekend, finally.

Peace all

Yup I only have periodic access to the net, so I reply to as many topics as I can when I have the chance to do so.

Seasonic are a good brand, as are Antec (or at least the higher end models are), but my brand of choice at the moment is the Corsair HX series.
