If you have Nero Vision, you can elect to make a DVD video, load the VOB files, merge them, then 'Export' instead of burning to disk.
Select MPEG 2 and save, or you can export it as an AVI file.
VideoRedo has a 'Combine' feature which will join VOB files, I think it has a trial period, but not sure.

hmm...for some reason it wouldn't let me merge the vob's. it said there wasn't enough space??? would it cause a problem if the files were directly from a dvd?? with the extras and all of that stuff...

If you mean Nero, you would select the VOB files relating to the main title.
These would probably be named, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB etc.

I find that if you try and select from an (unprotected) dvd, that it will display a message saying that they have to be copied to the hard disk first.

An alternative, if you are familiar with DOS:
a) Open a cmd window using the Windows run command.
b) cd to the folder containing your VOB files.
c) At the command line, enter a command similar to:
copy /b vob1.vob + vob2.vob + vob3.vob outputFile.mpg
